The Asokwa Divisional Police Command in the Ashanti Region has announced the sudden death of General Corporal Samuel Okonegye who was stationed at the Trede Police Station.
According to an official situational report issued by the Trede District Command, the incident occurred on Sunday, May 25, 2025, at around 4:00 pm. G/Cpl Okonegye had taken permission to visit his wife, who is eight months pregnant, at Breman Esikuma when the fatal accident happened.
While riding a motorbike along the Assin Nsuta stretch, he reportedly collided with a tipper truck bearing registration number AS 9475-19. The vehicle was being driven by one Isaac Kumi at the time of the crash.
Sadly, G/Cpl Okonegye did not survive the impact. His body has since been deposited at the St. Francis Xavier Hospital in Assin Fosu. Plans are underway for the body to be transferred to the Police Hospital Morgue in Accra.
The Ghana Police Service has expressed its deep regret over the loss of the officer and has assured that further details regarding the incident and subsequent arrangements will be communicated in due course.
