Man beheaded in broad daylight by alleged mentally ill attacker

Residents of the Tema Main Harbour Railways area were left shaken on Friday following a gruesome incident in which a man was reportedly beheaded by a suspect believed to be mentally unstable.
The attacker, identified only as Ali and said to be in his 30s, allegedly decapitated a man thought to be in his mid-50s, who worked as a caretaker in the area.
Eyewitnesses told the Ghana News Agency that Ali carried the severed head in a bag, walking through parts of the community before he was apprehended by police.
He later led officers from the Tema Regional Police Command to the scene where the rest of the body was found. It has since been deposited at the mortuary as investigations continue.
The motive behind the attack remains unclear, and authorities are yet to comment on the mental state of the suspect officially.
Locals expressed horror at the act. One resident, Mr. Isaac Adjei, recalled that Ali had previously worked as a porter, helping offload cargo from trucks near the harbour. However, he noted that “for the past two and a half years, he started acting insane.”
The community, especially those living in informal settlements around the harbour, remain in shock, with many calling for improved mental health interventions and better security in the area.
