Bawumia breached NIB, EOCO agreement- Kwakye Ofosu on why he was denied access to Wontumi

Government spokesperson, Felix Kwakye Ofosu has explained why former Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia was not allowed to see Chairman Wontumi when he visited the premises of the National Investigations Bureau (NIB).

According to him, there was a laid down procedure agreed with the office of the former Vice President, however, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia breached the process, reasons why he could not access Wontumi.

“There was an agreement that he comes with just a few people but upon his arrival, he was with a huge number of persons and that was a breach of the agreement reason why he could not be allowed to see him,” Felix told Oyerepa TV in an interview.

Adding that “I don’t think Dr Bawumia going to see him would have made any difference. He did not honour the agreement with EOCO and NIB to create the atmosphere that enables EOCO and NIB”.

Chairman Wontumi has been arrested by EOCO and according to the Deputy Attorney General, he is being arrested for fraud, money laundering among other crimes.

Although Wontumi has been granted bail, he wasn’t released because when his lawyers were able to provide the bail bond, they were informed that an application to vary the bail bond is in court.

They are hoping to see to his release from custody today.
