OSP to file charges in GHC 280m NPA corruption scandal

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) is set to press criminal charges against top officials of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) before the end of June in connection with a corruption scandal involving over GH¢280 million.
Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng announced at a press briefing on Monday, June 2, stating that investigations revealed a scheme by some NPA officials between 2022 and 2024 to exploit their positions for personal gain.
“These officials used threats, coercion, bribery, and regulatory pressure to extract large sums of money from oil marketing companies,” Agyebeng disclosed.
He added that the proceeds—traced to GH¢280.5 million—were used to acquire properties, haulage trucks, and even set up competing oil firms.
Although the names of the accused were not disclosed at the briefing, the OSP had earlier confirmed that its probe, launched in November 2024, targeted former NPA boss Mustapha Abdul-Hamid and three others.
The OSP says it will begin filing charges against the first group of suspects and complicit oil firms by the end of June, promising a full public disclosure afterward: “We will brief you in detail—who did what, who acquired what, and what has been recovered.”
