Mahama vows to complete KATH maternity block and other key Ashanti projects

President John Dramani Mahama has promised to see through the completion of critical health infrastructure in the Ashanti Region, with top priority given to the maternity block at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).
Speaking on Monday, June 2, at the Jubilee House during a courtesy visit by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, and a delegation of eminent chiefs, President Mahama said his administration remains focused on delivering the long-overdue projects.
Construction of the five-storey maternity facility began in 2021 following the demolition of the old structure.
Once completed, the new block will offer specialised services in areas such as paediatric neurology, haematology, cardiology, and respiratory care.
It will also house a dedicated Mother and Baby Unit, a Paediatric Infectious Disease Unit, and a Renal Unit for children.
“In the Health Sector, we will continue and complete the Sewua and Afari Military Hospitals. We will also continue and complete the KATH maternity and children blocks,” President Mahama stated.
He added that these projects will be part of his broader infrastructure programme, the ‘Big Push’ Agenda, aimed at significantly improving public services across the country — with Ashanti poised to be a major beneficiary.
