Ato Forson won’t steal your Ghc 1 like others did

Chief Executive Officer of the Shippers Authority, Prof Ransford Gyamfi has backed government’s fuel tax.

He argues that the current government will be accountable to Ghanaian me unlike the previous government which was only good at dissipating funds.

He is sure the people of Ghana will always want to pay for their problems to be solved and not pay money to be stolen by a select few.

Making his point known in a post on Facebook, he defended the current finance minister, Ato Forson indicating that he will not chop the money but will use it for the intended purpose.

He holds the opinion that the previous government left a mess behind and only paying of the Ghc 1 per litre will help address the mess.

Gyampo’s opinion read “Ghanaians would prefer to pay 1 cedi fuel levy to be used to solve a problem than to pay 1 pesewa e-levy/covid levy to be stolen by greedy people who also stole pensions of the aged. Ato won’t chop the 1 cedi, he would use it to solve the mess left behind”.

Parliament has passed the Fuel Levy which imposes Ghc 1 on every litre of fuel bought.

The levy has been met with the contempt it deserves but government appointees have defended it saying it will help solve challenges in the energy sector.

Meanwhile, some policy analyst have said that the levy will undermine calls for reduction of prices of goods and services indicating that it may lead to increase in transport fees among others.
