Coco Gauff makes history with French Open triumph

Coco Gauff has lit up Roland Garros with a victory that’s both historic and deeply emotional.

The 21-year-old tennis star has become the first American woman in a decade to win the French Open, breaking a long-standing dry spell since Serena Williams last clinched the title in 2015.

In a fiercely contested final, Gauff staged a remarkable comeback to defeat world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in three sets — 6–7(5), 6–2, 6–4.

The opening set slipped through her fingers in a tiebreak, but she roared back with fearless precision and grit, dominating the second and holding her nerve in a thrilling decider.

As the final point was won, Coco collapsed to her knees, soaking in the moment before rushing to the stands to embrace her family and coaching team.

“This moment means everything to me,” she said through tears. “I’ve worked so hard to get back here and to finally win this title is just incredible.”

Gauff’s rise has been steady and hard-fought. After finishing as runner-up at Roland Garros in 2022 and capturing her first Grand Slam at the US Open in 2023, she has proven she belongs among tennis’ elite.

Saturday’s triumph confirms it — she’s not just a rising star anymore; she’s a champion twice over.
