Fake doctor busted in Kasoa after Scamming victims with false travel promises

In a scene straight out of a movie, police in Kasoa arrested a man who posed as a medical doctor—complete with lab coat and stethoscope—to scam people with fake overseas travel deals.

The suspect, Fredrick Papa Kow-Assifuah, was picked up on Thursday, June 6, 2025, in a police-led intelligence swoop by the Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) at Crispo City in the Central Region.

He wasn’t just pretending—he dressed the part. Police say he was caught red-handed in his “doctor” outfit while waiting to meet yet another victim he had baited online.

A search of his hideout revealed a mini-medical setup: stethoscopes, syringes, IV drips, vaccine bottles, a Ghanaian passport, and GH¢8,500 in cash.

When interrogated, Kow-Assifuah confessed to faking his role as a doctor at the supposed “United Brain Hospital” in Mallam.

But that was just the beginning. He also admitted to starting online romantic relationships under his fake identity, using them as a trap to convince women to pay for non-existent travel packages to Europe.

The fake doctor is currently behind bars and assisting with investigations. Police say he will soon be put before court.
