You called NPP members fools, now you want to lead them? Bawumia’s allies fire Ken Agyapong

Supporters of former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia have launched a scathing rebuttal against Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong, following comments he made during a weekend address in Mampong.

Agyapong, who lost the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential primaries to Bawumia in 2023, suggested that religion played a key role in the outcome of the internal elections—a claim Bawumia’s camp has flatly rejected.

In a strongly worded statement, members of the Bawumia camp said Kennedy Agyapong’s assertions were not only “absurd” but also an insult to the very people he claims to represent.

“Ken Agyapong has described NPP members as fools. He’s questioned why poor people in the party should speak.

“And now, he wants to be leader of the same people he insults? How does that make sense?” the group fired.

The team further challenged Agyapong’s claim that Bawumia’s religion was the sole reason for his victory in the primaries.

“Was it because of religion that over 50 Christian NPP parliamentary candidates—some of them pastors—also lost their seats?

“Was it religion that led to Kufuor’s loss in 1996, or Akufo-Addo’s defeats in 2008 and 2012? The claim is absurd,” they stated.

They also questioned the logic behind such an argument, pointing out the overwhelming support Bawumia received from delegates across religious backgrounds.

“If the party didn’t want a Muslim leader, how did Bawumia beat nine Christian aspirants in the first round, and five in the final primary? Or are NPP delegates suddenly all Muslims?”

The former vice president’s backers did not mince words, accusing Agyapong of stirring division and disrespecting the intelligence of NPP members.

“In a party founded on tradition and merit, Ken Agyapong’s attacks expose his lack of consistency and his disrespect for the process,” one supporter added off record.
