The government has greenlit the payment of Book and Research Allowances for senior members in public universities and colleges of education for the 2024/2025 academic year.
Academic staff will receive $1,500 for books and $1,600 for research. Non-academic senior staff are entitled to a $1,500 Book Allowance.
Payments will be made in Ghana cedis using an average exchange rate of GHS15.47 to $1, covering the period from September 2, 2024, to March 28, 2025.
The directive—captured in a June 2025 circular from the Finance Ministry—applies to senior members of all public tertiary institutions, including members of CETAG.
Claims must be audited by each institution’s Internal Audit Unit before submission to the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) for processing.
Institutions have been instructed to use a standardised claims template for both academic and non-academic staff.
