We’ll honour your role in governance – Mahama assures chiefs during visit to Yaa Naa

President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his government’s commitment to strengthening ties with Ghana’s traditional leaders, describing them as vital partners in the country’s development.
Speaking during a courtesy call on the Overlord of Dagbon, His Royal Majesty Yaa Naa Abubakari Mahama II, at the Jubilee House on Friday, June 13, 2025, Mahama stressed the importance of preserving Ghana’s cultural heritage alongside pursuing national progress.
“Beyond infrastructure, we are also restoring the dignity and capacity of the traditional Chieftaincy Institution,” he said.
“The Traditional Leadership Support Fund, created under the 2025 budget, will finance the preservation of royal archives, rehabilitation of palaces, and logistical support for traditional areas, including the Dagbon Traditional Council. We recognize that tradition is complementary to development.”
Mahama also assured chiefs that their wisdom and status would not be sidelined under his leadership.
“Tradition is foundational. This government will not sideline traditional rulers.
