We’ll give you a Ghanaian passport If you want – Mahama tells Anthony Joshua during Jubilee House visit

President John Dramani Mahama has extended a warm and symbolic offer to British boxing champion Anthony Joshua, saying he would be delighted to grant him a Ghanaian passport if he wished to become a citizen.
This offer came during a courtesy visit by the two-time world heavyweight champion to the Jubilee House on Monday, June 16, 2025, as part of his ongoing tour of Ghana.
The visit follows Joshua’s arrival in the country on June 13, where he received a hero’s welcome from enthusiastic fans and dignitaries alike.
“We are happy to have you. You’re an icon,” Mahama said. “If you want us to give you a Ghanaian passport, we will give you.”
Anthony Joshua, whose parents are of Nigerian descent expressed heartfelt appreciation for the country’s warm embrace.
“I’m really impressed with your beautiful country,” Joshua said during his remarks.
“Amazing culture, hospitality, the airport, organisation, and I can’t wait to go back and tell the world how beautiful this place is.”
