I’ll be hugely surprised if Bawumia isn’t chosen to lead NPP in 2028 – NDC’s Suhuyini

A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) communication team, Hamza Suhuyini, has made a bold and unexpected endorsement of former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, describing him as the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) most viable candidate for the 2028 general elections.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily on Wednesday, June 18, Suhuyini questioned the motive behind the NPP’s push for an early internal congress, suggesting it was more about control than transformation.

“Whatever way you look at it, the initiative to organise an early congress is simply driven by the motivation to control, not an opportunity to rebuild and ensure transformation in the politics of the NPP,” he argued.

“And that is why I feel that this party under this current leadership seems to be doing Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia so much harm.”

Despite being a member of the opposition party, Suhuyini openly acknowledged Bawumia’s edge over other potential contenders within the NPP.

“From where I sit, you can turn the As up or down, whether congress is held today or a year from now, I know that Dr. Bawumia is in a better position to lead the NPP than any of the contenders, in all honesty,” he stated.

He also cautioned the former Vice President to remain vigilant and not allow internal politics to derail his future prospects.

“He must learn useful lessons. He must not allow these guys to destroy the responsibility that the party will entrust to him to reform. And this is harmless advice to him,” Suhuyini added.

The NDC communicator concluded by saying he would be “hugely surprised” if Bawumia is not selected to lead the NPP into the 2028 polls, signaling an unusual but telling show of confidence from across the political aisle.
