Big shame – Nimako slams EC, police over collation chaos in Ablekuma North

The Director of Elections for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Evans Nimako, has strongly criticised the Electoral Commission (EC) for its continued delay in finalising the 2024 parliamentary results for the Ablekuma North constituency.

Speaking on Citi FM’s Eyewitness News, Mr. Nimako did not mince words, describing the situation as “shameful” and questioning the EC’s inability to conclude a process that should have been long resolved.

“We do not see why it is difficult for the Electoral Commission to complete this exercise. It is not the best. It is a shame that we do not have a Member of Parliament for Ablekuma North,” he lamented.

According to Mr. Nimako, the delay not only undermines confidence in the country’s electoral process but also denies the people of Ablekuma North their rightful representation in Parliament.

He also raised concerns over the lack of accountability following reported violence during the collation process.

“What is intriguing is that on the day of collation, on the 8th of December 2024, some men decided to destroy electoral material, yet the police have been unable to arrest and conduct an investigation for these people to be prosecuted, and that for me is a big shame,” he added.

The EC has yet to announce a firm date for the collation and declaration of results, citing unresolved issues from three polling stations.
