No one tried to burn fire tender

The Eastern Regional Command of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has denied reports suggesting that unknown individuals attempted to set a fire tender ablaze at Nkawkaw.

In an official statement signed by Assistant Chief Fire Officer I (ACFO I) Timothy Osafo-Affum, the Eastern Regional Commander, and copied to the Ghana News Agency, the GNFS described the claims as “false and misleading.”

According to the statement, the incident occurred on Tuesday, June 11, 2025, around 9:16 p.m., when the Nkawkaw Fire Station received a distress call about a fire outbreak at Zaragoza Atta Ne Atta involving a nine-bedroom self-contained house.

“The crew immediately responded to the call,” the statement explained. “However, while approaching the scene, the fire tender got stuck in a muddy section of the road, which was filled with charcoal.”

It further clarified that due to the intense heat from the fire tender’s engine and exhaust system, the charcoal beneath the vehicle ignited, producing smoke.

“This smoke was mistakenly perceived by bystanders as an attempt by unknown individuals to set the fire engine ablaze,” the statement noted. “At no point did anyone attempt to attack or set fire to the tender. There was no malicious intent.”

Because the Nkawkaw tender could not proceed to the scene, the Mpraeso Fire Station was alerted and dispatched a team to handle the fire outbreak.

The GNFS assured the public of its unwavering commitment to providing professional and timely emergency services.
