Bawumia camp endorsements don’t intimidate us – Kennedy Agyapong’s team fires back

Spokesperson for Kennedy Agyapong’s campaign, Kwasi Kwarteng, has brushed off claims by Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s camp that over 200 former Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) are backing his bid to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) into the 2028 general elections.
Speaking on JoyNews’ The Pulse, Kwarteng said such claims are not a source of concern for their team, stating that the real decision lies with the over 200,000 polling station executives who make up the grassroots of the party.
“It is good for them [the Bawumia camp], we wish them well if indeed they believe they have over 200 MMDCEs. I’m sure the election day will vindicate that position,” he said.
Kwarteng further recalled similar strategies used in the previous primaries, which he said did not yield the expected results for the Vice President.
“It was a similar practice done during the last elections that directly convinced polling station executives to vote for Dr. Bawumia, and we all saw the outcome.”
Reaffirming Kennedy Agyapong’s focus, he added:
“Our focus is to engage over 200,000 polling station executives. We are confident that they will make a determination on who they believe should lead the party — a candidate who is marketable, winnable, and can unite the party.”
Kennedy Agyapong, who lost the NPP’s flagbearer race in 2023, has signaled his intent to remain a strong force within the party, and his team insists the next leadership choice must go beyond endorsements to reflect the will of the party’s grassroots.
