Has the 2028 election been brought forward? – Franklin Cudjoe mocks NPP

President of IMANI Africa, Franklin Cudjoe, has taken a swipe at the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for what he describes as premature and chaotic jostling for political power just months after their defeat in the 2024 general elections.

In a strongly worded Facebook post on Tuesday morning, Cudjoe questioned the party’s urgency and tone in its renewed push for political relevance.

“Ah, has the 2028 elections been brought forward? Why is the NPP rabidly raucous about the presidency just a few months after their monumental beating?” he wrote.

He went on to describe the party’s conduct as “classless and crass,” stressing the need for a more serious, innovative, and forward-thinking opposition that can hold the ruling party accountable and contribute meaningfully to national development.

Cudjoe’s post comes amid growing internal debates and public commentary within the NPP about leadership restructuring, flagbearer ambitions, and the party’s future direction. Since its defeat to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the December 2024 elections, the NPP has been grappling with internal divisions, criticism over its record in office, and uncertainty about how to rebrand for the next electoral cycle.

Observers say the party appears to be in a state of flux, with factions already positioning themselves for 2028, despite calls from political analysts for a period of introspection and policy renewal.

Franklin Cudjoe’s comments reflect a broader sentiment among civil society voices who have called for Ghana’s opposition parties to move beyond political theatrics and contribute substantively to governance and reform.

The NPP is yet to respond to the remarks.
