Rejected today, elected tomorrow – Akomea backs Bawumia for 2028

Nana Akomea has expressed strong optimism about the political future of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, insisting that the party’s 2024 electoral loss does not spell the end of his presidential ambitions.

Akomea reminded Ghanaians that several presidents in the Fourth Republic were once rejected by the electorate, only to make a comeback later during an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen.

“Many presidents, including John Mahama, were rejected while in office but later returned to win power. So, Dr. Bawumia still has a chance to win the 2028 election,” Akomea stated.

He also highlighted a consistent pattern in Ghana’s recent democratic history — where the presidency tends to shift back to former contenders after a period in opposition.

“For the most part, since 2000, the president has handed over power to the person he defeated. Rawlings handed over to Kufuor, Kufuor handed over to President Mills, and the same happened with Akufo-Addo and Mahama.”

According to Akomea, this trend indicates that political defeat in Ghana is not always permanent, especially when the candidate remains relevant and committed to national development.

The former National Communications Director called for calm and unity within the party as it regroups for the next political cycle. He urged party faithful not to lose sight of the long game.
