No increase in water tariffs despite economic pressures – PURC holds rates steady

The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has announced that water tariffs will remain unchanged for the third quarter of 2025, despite economic pressures that led to an upward adjustment in electricity rates.

According to the PURC’s press release issued on June 25, 2025, water tariffs across all consumer categories will stay at current levels, with a 0.00% increase approved for the July–September period.

This decision, the Commission stated, was made after assessing economic indicators, the cost of operations, and the need to protect consumers amid inflationary pressures.

Residential consumers will continue paying 528.18 GHp/m³ for 0–5m³ of water and 934.46 GHp/m³ for usage above that threshold. Industrial, commercial, and sachet water producers also retain their current rates, with no change to their service charges.

The decision comes at a time when the Commission is closely monitoring utility operations and urging efficiency among service providers.

Despite challenges such as inflation, exchange rate fluctuations, and rising energy costs, the PURC chose to cushion water consumers, many of whom are still navigating tough economic conditions.

The Commission expressed appreciation to stakeholders for their support and emphasized its commitment to balancing consumer protection with the long-term sustainability of utility services.
