Interior Minister tasks GIS to support 24-hour economy with faster visa processing

Interior Minister Alhaji Muntaka Mubarak, has charged the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) to adopt a results-driven, technology-enhanced approach to service delivery, in line with the government’s 24-Hour Economy initiative..

In a statement shared on his official Facebook page, the Minister praised the GIS for outlining a clear strategic direction that aligns with the national economic agenda. He emphasized the Service’s pivotal role as the country’s first line of defense.

“As the country’s first line of defense, the Service plays a vital role in monitoring and regulating what enters and exits Ghana’s borders, including the issuance of visas to non-Ghanaians,” he stated.

Alhaji Muntaka urged the GIS to embrace modern technology to improve operational efficiency and provide faster, more reliable immigration services.

“I urged GIS to leverage modern technology to enhance the efficiency of its operations and improve service delivery,” he added.

As part of this renewed direction, the Minister revealed that immigration permits for foreign nationals should now be processed and issued within a 24-hour timeframe, stressing that the Service must sustain momentum and demonstrate resilience in achieving this ambitious goal.

During a recent cadet graduation ceremony, he also took time to acknowledge the hard work of the new recruits, commending them for their perseverance and dedication.

“I commended the graduating cadets for the successful completion of their training. I applauded their dedication and tireless efforts, and I encouraged them to uphold the virtues and high standards of discipline instilled in them,” he said.

He further urged them to serve Ghana with integrity, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to national service.
