Kofi Jumah reportedly arrested by National Security

According to a report by Asaase News, Maxwell Kofi Jumah, former Managing Director of GIHOC Distilleries has been arresed by operatives believed to be from National Security.
The development has raised eyebrows within the New Patriotic Party (NPP), with some branding the move as politically motivated.
The arrest took place on Sunday, 29 June, at Jumah’s residence.
According to Paul Yandoh, Ashanti Regional Communications Director of the NPP, officers arrived unannounced and demanded to speak with him.
They then showed “something on a phone they claimed was a warrant” and proceeded to take Jumah into custody without giving him the opportunity to change his clothes.
“He was taken away in a pickup vehicle to the Ashanti Regional Police Command. He is currently in custody awaiting further instructions from Accra,” Yandoh told Asaase News.
So far, no official charge has been communicated, and neither the Ghana Police Service nor any national security agency has formally claimed responsibility for the operation.
Three lawyers have since arrived to offer legal assistance, but the legal grounds for the arrest remain unclear.
Yandoh described the incident as deeply troubling, warning that it could signal an abuse of power under the current administration.
“This is not the democracy we are building. It appears the President is using state institutions to suppress the opposition,” he said.
The NPP’s Ashanti Regional Secretary has also been notified and was reportedly en route to the police station at the time this report was filed.
