NIA staff call off strike action; work resumes today, June 30

Staff of the National Identification Authority (NIA) have suspended their strike action effective June 30, 2025.
This was after extensive engagements with the National Labour Commission (NLC), the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC), the Finance Ministry (MOF), and the leadership of the mother Union, the Divisional Executive Council of the PSWU.
A statement issued by the National Identification Authority management explained that the union’s good faith is appreciated.

It assured the staff of the Authority that their legitimate concerns remain a priority and they will receive urgent attention.
As a result of the suspension, work begins at all registration centers across the country on June 30, 2025.
It will be recalled that on June 24, 2025, staff of the National Identification Authority embarked on an industrial action over the Ministry of Finance’s failure to provide a definitive commitment or timeline regarding the payment of the Operational Support Allowance—the only allowance NIA staff get to supplement their meagre basic pay.
