SYNLAB Ghana rejects media narrative in ongoing HIV test lawsuit

Medical diagnostics firm SYNLAB Ghana has pushed back against what it describes as a misleading media narrative surrounding a lawsuit filed against the company over alleged HIV test errors.
The case, which is currently pending in court, involves a GHC10 million legal claim by a female client who alleges she was wrongly diagnosed as HIV-positive, resulting in the loss of her job and damage to her reputation.
In a public statement issued on Tuesday, July 1, SYNLAB confirmed its awareness of the lawsuit but emphasized that the reporting around the issue has been both “inaccurate” and “prejudicial.”
“While we respect the individual’s right to seek legal redress, we strongly reject the narrative being propagated in the media,” the company said.
The company said it has filed a formal statement of defence denying all allegations and has engaged legal counsel to cooperate fully with the court process.
SYNLAB took the opportunity to reassure the public of its commitment to high professional standards, stating that its HIV testing procedures follow both local and international quality benchmarks.
The company holds certification from Ghana’s Health Facilities Regulatory Agency (HeFRA) and ISO 15189:2022 accreditation from Germany’s DAkkS.
“Our laboratory follows robust internal and external quality controls to ensure the highest standards of accuracy, integrity, and confidentiality in all diagnostic services, including HIV testing,” the statement added.
Additionally, SYNLAB cautioned the media and the public against spreading unverified claims, warning that such information not only distorts the facts but may interfere with ongoing judicial proceedings.
“The publication in question is not only unbalanced but also contains factual inaccuracies that we are addressing through the appropriate legal channels.”
Though the case is before the courts, SYNLAB assured clients and partners that the matter does not affect the quality or reliability of its services.
“SYNLAB Ghana remains a trusted provider of diagnostic excellence, and this matter in no way affects the quality, accuracy, or reliability of our services,” the statement concluded.
