I don’t want Mahama to succeed so my party can return in 2028

Former Member of Parliament for Subin, Eugene Boakye Antwi, has made a candid confession about his political expectations and hopes for the 2028 general elections.

the former lawmaker openly declared that he does not wish for President John Dramani Mahama to succeed — not out of ill will, he explained, but because he desires a New Patriotic Party (NPP) victory in the next election cycle.

“I want him [Mahama] to fail, I want my party to win the 2028 elections. I don’t want him to fail, as in fail. But I know that NDC cannot do much in terms of what they promised,” Mr. Boakye Antwi stated in an interview with Umaru Sanda Amadu on Channel One TV’s Face to Face, expressing doubt in the ability of the current government to meet its campaign promises.

Drawing from his own experience in government, the former MP suggested that internal sabotage and inefficiencies often make it difficult for presidents to succeed — even with good intentions.

“I have been in government, and sometimes, as a President, your appointees will make sure that you fail.

“The kind of things I saw when we were in government are the same Ghanaians in the NDC, so it will be transferred across there,” he explained.

While he clarified that his wish wasn’t driven by bitterness, his concern stemmed from partisan loyalty and lack of faith in the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) governance capacity.

“I don’t want Mahama to succeed as in succeeding, because I want my party [NPP] to win… In terms of the actual management of the economy, I don’t think the NDC has what it takes,” he concluded.
