Make sure GoldBod does not become a vehicle for encouraging illegally sourced gold—Erastus Asare Donor warns

A leading voice against illegal mining in Ghana, Erastus Asare Donkor, has urged the GoldBod not to be fixated only on gains.

He argues that the GoldBod must also be concerned with the traceability of the gold they purchase.

To him, knowing where the gold comes from must be of paramount interest to the GoldBod.

Erastus believes that if such mechanisms are not put in place, the GoldBod may become a vehicle for encouraging illegally sourced gold.

Making this position known in a post shared via social media, he said, “GOLDBOD MUST NOT be fixated on the gains alone. They must be concerned with traceability!! Where is the gold coming from? It must not be a vehicle for encouraging illegally sourced gold. Lives are at stake!!”
