Adu-Boahene’s lawyer slams trial schedule, calls court’s process ‘an aberration of justice’

The legal team defending Kwabena Adu-Boahene, the former Director General of the National Signals Bureau (NSB), has raised strong objections to how the ongoing GH¢49.1 million cybersecurity trial is being handled.

Speaking to the press after the latest court session in Accra whixh was monitored by MyNewsGh, lead counsel Atta Akyea described the process as rushed and unfair, accusing the prosecution and court of undermining due process.

According to Akyea, the High Court had initially adjourned the matter to July 21, a date that was expected to allow the judge ample time to deliver a well-reasoned decision.

However, he claims that the Attorney General’s office disrupted that plan by suddenly pushing for the case to be heard earlier than scheduled.

“What transpired in the courtroom today is an aberration of justice,” Akyea said.

“At the last sitting, the judge said he was going to adjourn the case to the 21st of this month so that we would be given a reasoned decision. But today, they stampeded the judge to bring it forward.”

The lawyer further revealed that the judge was unable to provide a full ruling due to the sudden change and instead promised that the comprehensive written decision would be ready by Monday.

Despite this, the court has now reportedly moved the case forward for trial within the next week.

Akyea alleged that crucial evidence—particularly documents that could potentially aid the defence—had been intentionally excluded from the witness statements.

“Some of the bank statements have been cleverly removed. All the things that should help the accused persons are not there,” he stated.

He insisted that the accused should be given adequate time to prepare for what he describes as a full trial, one that demands transparency and procedural fairness.

“This is not how justice is done,” he concluded.
