We’ll trigger legal processes on Monday – Lawyer vows to appeal Agradaa’s sentence

Lawyers for convicted evangelist Patricia Asiedua Asiamah, popularly known as Nana Agradaa, say they will begin legal processes on Monday, July 8, to challenge her 15-year prison sentence.

Speaking to the media shortly after the Accra Circuit Court ruling, Agradaa’s lead counsel described the sentence as “excessive,” particularly when weighed against the amount involved in the alleged fraud.

“Even the amount involved is just GH¢540. If you are alleged to have defrauded someone of GH¢540 and be sentenced for 15 years… I’m very clear in my mind that Agradaa has been jailed just because of who she is, not because of what she is alleged to have done,” the lawyer stated.

The comments follow a high-profile ruling that found Agradaa guilty of defrauding by false pretence and charlatanic advertisement.

The charges stemmed from a 2022 broadcast in which she claimed to possess spiritual powers to double money — a claim that led multiple people to part with significant amounts of cash.

Agradaa was calm as she exited the courtroom under police escort.

In a video that has since gone viral, she was heard telling her supporters, “Continue praying.”

While the legal team explores an appeal, Agradaa will remain behind bars unless a motion for a stay of execution is filed and approved.

Without that, she will serve her sentence in full — even if the appeal process takes years to conclude.
