The 33 excavators did not get missing under the care of the police—MDF clarifies.

The Minerals Development Fund has clarified that 33 excavators that went missing out of the 40 seized did not go missing in police custody.
It will be remembered that reports suggested that Dr Hannah Bissiw had said in an interview that 33 of some 40 seized excavators went missing while in police custody.
But a statement from the Minerals Development Fund issued on July 3, 2025, idicated that the Administrator of the Minerals Development Fund was misquoted by the various reports.
It explained that officials of the Minerals Development Fund halted the use of the excavators when they got to Akomfre.
Law enforcement was contacted to move to the site to ensure the formal seizure of the excavators because the staff of the Minerals Development Fund did not have the manpower to do that.
However, upon the arrival of law enforcement personnel to the mining sites where the excavators were halted and prevented from working, 33 of them were missing.
