Blue Water Guards destroy galamsey machines on Mansi River

Efforts to combat illegal mining, known locally as galamsey, have gained momentum in the Western Region, as the Blue Water Guards ramp up operations in the Prestea-Huni-Valley Municipality.

On Saturday, July 5, a team from the Bogoso Base led by Supervisor Allan Kweku Acheampong conducted an operation along the Mansi River near the Dwabeng community.

The mission resulted in the destruction of two Changfan machines, which had been mounted on a moving platform and used for illegal mining.

The machines were set ablaze, with additional parts deliberately dumped into the river to ensure they couldn’t be salvaged for future use.

“This is the Bogoso River Guards. We came for an inspection on the Basin River at Dwabeng. Some machines have been burnt and destroyed, and others thrown into the river,” Acheampong explained in an interview with Channel One News.
