Where lies your faith? – Nyarko Osei opposes Cathedral conversion

Member of Parliament for Akim Swedru, Kennedy Nyarko Osei, has strongly criticised the government’s decision to convert the abandoned National Cathedral project into a National Cultural Convention Centre (NCCC).
In a post on Facebook, the MP called on Christians across Ghana to speak out against what he sees as a betrayal of faith.
“As a Christian you should be worried that this Government wants to convert the proposed National Cathedral into National Cultural Convention Centre.
“Where lies your faith and love to the gospel? Don’t just sit unconcerned. Speak up now with courage,” he wrote.
His comments come in response to the government’s recent announcement to reposition the stalled project under a new policy initiative dubbed “SH0W24”—part of the broader 24-hour economy agenda aimed at boosting the creative arts, tourism, and cultural diplomacy sectors.
According to the policy framework, the revamped centre will be developed in partnership with the AfCFTA Secretariat and is expected to become Africa’s leading hub for global exhibitions, summits, film festivals, and trade shows.
Government insists the new direction will help close a critical infrastructure gap in Ghana’s creative economy while respecting national and religious sentiments.
However, MP Kennedy Nyarko believes the original purpose of the project—a sacred national monument for worship and Christian unity—should not be abandoned for economic or political expediency.
