Texas floods: Ghana shares in your grief

President John Dramani Mahama of Ghana has extended heartfelt condolences to President Donald J. Trump and the people of the United States following the devastating floods that swept through Central Texas on July 4, 2025.
In an official letter dated July 8, 2025, President Mahama described the disaster as deeply sorrowful, especially given the significant loss of life and destruction left in its wake.
“I have received with deep sorrow the news of the devastating floods that swept through Central Texas on 4th July 2025,” President Mahama wrote.
“Reports reaching us indicate that the disaster has claimed the lives of at least eighty (80) individuals, including children, displaced thousands, and caused extensive damage to homes and infrastructure.”
He noted that the communities of Travis, Hays, and Williamson were among the hardest hit and expressed particular concern for those still missing.
“We are particularly saddened by the fact that many persons remain missing,” he added.
On behalf of the Government and people of Ghana, President Mahama extended solidarity to the United States, offering both sympathy and support during what he called a national moment of grief.
“I extend our heartfelt condolences to Your Excellency, the Government, and the people of the United States of America, especially the bereaved families and all those affected by this tragic calamity,” he stated.
President Mahama also acknowledged the scale of destruction and the ongoing efforts to manage the crisis.
“We have followed with great concern the widespread destruction inflicted upon lives and livelihoods.
“In the face of such adversity, we commend your resolute leadership and the tireless efforts of emergency personnel, local authorities, and volunteers who are working under extremely difficult circumstances to rescue, relieve, and restore affected communities.”
He concluded by reaffirming Ghana’s support:
“Ghana stands in full solidarity with the Government and people of the United States during this moment of grief and national mourning. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.”
