We’ll start forming militias – NPP youth leader laments EC decision

The National Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Salam Mustapha, has strongly criticised the Electoral Commission’s (EC) decision to rerun parliamentary elections in 19 polling stations within the Ablekuma North Constituency, describing it as dangerous and unlawful.

“If we decide to partake in the Ablekuma North election, it is going to be all die be die,” he declared in an interview on Movement TV, echoing concerns about the growing politicization and security threats surrounding elections in Ghana.

He argued that the EC’s move sets a worrying precedent and could erode trust in Ghana’s electoral processes.

“A rerun of elections at Ablekuma North sets a dangerous precedent for future elections,” Mustapha stated.

“So the election is about who can build forces? If that is the case they should say it so that we would start forming our militia groups.”

His comments follow a legal suit filed by the NPP against the EC, challenging the legitimacy of the Commission’s decision.

The party contends that the EC has overstepped its mandate and is acting without judicial backing.

In an earlier interview with Channel One TV, Mustapha disclosed that the NPP has filed an interlocutory injunction at the court in a bid to stop the rerun.

“We have filed an interlocutory injunction in court; it cannot be. The EC doesn’t have the power to decide to rerun elections in selected polling stations,” he said.
