Justice will prevail – Akua Afriyie declares victory ahead of Ablekuma North rerun

New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Ablekuma North, Nana Akua Afriyie, is confident of victory ahead of the much-anticipated parliamentary rerun in the constituency slated for Friday, July 11, 2025.
In an interview on the eve of the election, Akua Afriyie expressed frustration with how the collation of results from the December 2024 polls was handled, accusing the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) of selectively accepting results that favored them while rejecting those they lost.
“The NDC candidate, the NDC leadership, Sam George, came to the collation centre, took places that they felt they had won… and places that they felt they didn’t win, when you bring the pink sheets, they say we don’t have them,” she said.
“When you bring the ones that they feel they won, then they say that one we have.”
Despite the setback, Akua Afriyie maintained that she remained composed through the chaos. “In the midst of all that, I was not perturbed. I went through all that,” she stressed.
The NPP candidate, who has spent the past seven months battling legal and political hurdles to secure what she describes as her “rightful victory,” is now placing her confidence in divine intervention and justice.
“I’ve gone through seven months of hustle and tussle and fighting for my right, and my right, God will let my right prevail tomorrow. I’m winning. The outcome is I have won,” she declared emphatically.
Pressed on whether she would accept any outcome other than a win, she replied, “It is win. I will win.
“Look, I will win. My sister, you’ll be here and you’ll come and interview me again. This election, God will speak.
“The Lord of Hosts, the Lord of Israel will speak tomorrow, and justice for the widow will prevail. Justice will prevail.”
The rerun, ordered by the Electoral Commission in 19 polling stations, follows disputes over unauthenticated pink sheets in the December elections.
Though the NPP leadership had earlier announced a boycott of the rerun, Akua Afriyie has broken ranks with the party to participate, vowing to fight for what she believes is a stolen mandate.
