Hawa Koomson attacked as violence mars rerun

The parliamentary rerun in Ablekuma North on Friday, July 11, turned chaotic when a group of unidentified macho men stormed the St. Peter’s polling station, disrupting the process and unleashing violence.

Eyewitnesses said the attackers arrived in a highly coordinated manner, causing panic among voters and halting the election temporarily. Security personnel were deployed swiftly to restore calm and resume voting.

Amid the chaos, former MP for Awutu Senya East, Mavis Hawa Koomson, was reportedly attacked, adding to the rising tension on the ground.

Channel One News’ Jude Duncan reported that NPP’s parliamentary candidate, Nana Akua Afriyie, and a female party agent were severely assaulted, suffering facial injuries and swelling.
