Vincent Ekow Assafuah, Member of Parliament for Old Tafo and a leading voice within the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has condemned the assault on a national executive of the party during the Ablekuma North parliamentary rerun, describing it as “a shameful stain on our democracy.”
In a Facebook post sighted by MyNewsGh, Assafuah pointed fingers at President John Dramani Mahama, under whose leadership, he claims, the violence occurred.
“The assault on a national executive of the NPP is a shameful stain on our democracy. John Mahama, this happened under your leadership. History will not forget,” he wrote.
His reaction follows a wave of violent incidents that have marred the Ablekuma North rerun held on Friday, July 11, 2025.
A widely circulated video captures a disturbing moment where a man — identified by some as an NPP executive — is seen being dragged, kicked, and manhandled by a group of men during a heated confrontation.
The rerun was intended to restore calm and legitimacy after electoral disputes dating back to the 2024 elections.
However, the atmosphere has been anything but peaceful, with multiple reports of coordinated attacks, assaults on journalists, and now, party officials.
The identity of the assailants remains unclear, but the footage has sparked widespread condemnation, especially within NPP circles, where members are calling for accountability and immediate investigations into the chaos.
