Suspended CJ Is undermining the judiciary

South Dayi MP, Rockson Nelson-Dafeamekpor, has criticized suspended Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo for what he describes as her continuous interference and manipulation of judicial proceedings.

Speaking on TV3’s The KeyPoints on Saturday, July 12, the outspoken lawmaker accused Justice Torkornoo of eroding the dignity of the judiciary.

“The suspended Chief Justice is abusing our court processes by constantly berating our Judges. She has become too petty,” Dafeamekpor stated.

His comments follow news that Justice Torkornoo has initiated a new legal action outside Ghana’s jurisdiction. She has filed a lawsuit at the ECOWAS Community Court of Justice in Abuja, Nigeria, alleging that her human rights have been violated by the Republic of Ghana.

Deputy Attorney General, Justice Srem-Sai, confirmed the development in a Facebook post, saying: “I can confirm that the Chief Justice – Her Ladyship, Justice Gertrude Torkornoo – has filed another court case – this time, at the ECOWAS Community Court in Abuja, Nigeria, against the Republic.”

According to Srem-Sai, the case, filed on July 4, repeats claims already under review by Ghana’s Supreme Court and High Court.

“In the case… Her Ladyship repeated the same allegations of human rights violations which are currently pending determination before our Supreme Court and, also, before our High Court in respect of the ongoing removal processes,” he wrote.
