Germany has been a true partner to Ghana – Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has paid tribute to outgoing German Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Daniel Krull, describing his four-year tenure as a period of “highly successful” cooperation between the two countries.
President Mahama expressed gratitude for Germany’s unwavering support in key areas, especially economic development and security.
“We had a productive discussion reflecting on the strong foundation of the Ghana-Germany partnership during his tenure, which I described as highly successful,” Mahama stated in a Facebook post following a farewell visit by the ambassador.
He emphasized Ghana’s continued commitment to building on this solid relationship, noting in particular Germany’s role in bolstering Ghana’s security sector.
He praised the country’s contributions to the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC) and capacity-building efforts for security personnel.
“Ghana remains committed to building on our excellent bilateral relations and exploring potential areas for deepening cooperation, particularly in the critical sectors of economic development and security,” he added.
The meeting also addressed growing concerns in the West African sub-region, with a focus on terrorism in the Sahel.
“We also touched on the evolving security challenges in our sub-region, specifically the growing threat of extreme terrorism in the Sahel.
“Ghana is ready to work closely with Germany on targeted capacity training programmes to bolster regional efforts in combating this menace,” Mahama said.
On migration, the President highlighted the importance of collaboration to reduce irregular migration through sustainable local opportunities for youth.
“We must work together to create sustainable local opportunities for our young people, thereby mitigating the risks associated with perilous journeys across the Sahara and the Mediterranean,” he stressed.
President Mahama concluded his message by thanking Ambassador Krull for his service and warm friendship, assuring him of a warm welcome in Ghana anytime.
“Ambassador Krull has been a friend of Ghana during his stay. We appreciate his dedication and service. I wished him all the best in his future endeavours and assured him that he is always welcome to visit whenever he misses Ghana.”
