Ambulance, Fire Service cut off over unpaid bills—NEDCo

The Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo) has cut power to several public institutions in Dormaa Municipality over unpaid electricity bills, including the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) and the Ghana Ambulance Service.
During a two-week Mass Revenue Mobilization and Loss Control Exercise, NEDCo disconnected the GNFS’s main and sub-stations at the Dormaa Ahenkro bus terminal, which collectively owe GH¢5,779. Similarly, the Ghana Ambulance Service main station in Dormaa Ahenkro was disconnected for an outstanding bill of GH¢10,196.
John Anim Peprah, NEDCo’s Station Supervisor in Dormaa Ahenkro, said the municipality’s total debt to the company stands at GH¢20.33 million. “We urge all customers to pay their bills promptly and keep receipts as proof to avoid disconnection,” he told the media.
In a related incident, a woman whose name was withheld was found to have illegally connected power to her home despite owing GH¢10,044. Her residence was promptly disconnected, and investigations are ongoing.
Meanwhile, Dormaa Senior High School has emerged as the top institutional debtor with arrears of GH¢1.64 million spread across two accounts. The school’s headmaster, Mr. Armstrong Asante, who also serves as the Bono Regional GNAT Chairman, stated that he would engage the Ministry of Education to settle the amount.
On a positive note, the Dormaa-Ahenkro Presbyterian Nursing and Midwifery Training College cleared its GH¢29,266 debt with a full payment of GH¢30,000, setting an example for other institutions.
