Deal ruthlessly with rogue soldiers – Defence Minister orders

Defence Minister Dr. Edward Boamah has condemned recent acts of violence in Bawku, describing the shooting of two soldiers and the destruction of a cherished statue as unacceptable and shameful.

Speaking at an All Ranks durbar with personnel of Garrisons 1 and 5 at Burma Camp, Dr. Boamah didn’t mince words. “I condemned the destruction of the cherished statue in Bawku over the weekend,” he said. “Government will rebuild that statue, and we expect that those responsible will face appropriate sanctions.”

He expressed deep concern about discipline within the ranks of the Ghana Armed Forces, particularly soldiers who secretly provide protection for unauthorized individuals.

“I cautioned soldiers who clandestinely provide guard duties for unauthorized persons,” he said, “and I urged the military High Command to deal with this illegal phenomenon in earnest.”

Dr. Boamah commended the troops for their overall professionalism but warned that there must be zero tolerance for misconduct.

“I urged them to deal ruthlessly with those few within their ranks who have deviated or may deviate from the professionalism expected of the Ghana Armed Forces,” he declared.

He also condemned the shooting of two soldiers in Bawku, expressing sympathy and outrage. “It is unacceptable, and it must be addressed with urgency,” he stated.
