Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has paid tribute to the late former Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari, describing him as a “remarkable leader” and symbol of integrity.

In a statement shared on social media, Mr. Ablakwa revealed that he visited the Nigerian High Commission in Accra to sign the book of condolence in honour of the former president.

“I was at the Nigerian High Commission in Ghana earlier today to sign a book of condolence in honour of the memory of the departed former president of Nigeria, His Excellency Muhammadu Buhari,” he said.

Mr. Ablakwa praised President Buhari’s legacy, highlighting his modest lifestyle, unifying nature, commitment to democracy, anti-corruption drive, and bold reforms.

“President Buhari was a remarkable leader who gained global respect for his modesty, empathy, unifying disposition, democratic credentials, fight against corruption and his bold reforms,” he noted.

He added that President John Dramani Mahama, along with the government and people of Ghana, extended their deepest sympathies to Nigeria.

“President John Mahama, the government and all Ghanaians convey our deepest commiserations with the friendly nation of Nigeria in this time of mourning,” he stated.

Ablakwa also acknowledged that former President Mahama had earlier sent a personal message of condolence to Nigeria’s current President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“It is worth acknowledging that President Mahama had earlier dispatched a personal message of condolence to his brother, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, immediately upon hearing the sad news,” he added.

Concluding his tribute, the Foreign Minister said, “May President Buhari’s memory be a blessing.”
