Peace in Bawku is not just a local issue; it is a matter of national importance—Mahama

President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama has said that peace in Bawku is not just a local issue, it is a matter of national importance.

He has therefore urged stakeholders to help speed up the mediation process to ensure peace returns to Bawku.

John Dramani Mahama made this known during a courtesy call from a delegation of Mamprugu chiefs on Thursday.

To him, Bawku, a once vibrant town, is tragically a pale shadow of its former self due to the conflict.

He said “During a courtesy call from a delegation of Mamprugu Chiefs on Thursday, I reiterated the critical importance of resolving the protracted conflict in Bawku.

Bawku, once a vibrant commercial hub, is now, tragically, a pale shadow of its former self. The sight of armed youth and the exodus of professionals speaks to the immense toll this conflict has taken on everyone in the area, and indeed, on our national peace.

Nobody is happy about this situation, and it requires our urgent and collective resolve.

I commend the crucial mediation efforts being led by Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II. We’ve had productive discussions, and I particularly appreciate Naa-Yiri Naa Bohagu Abdulai Mahami Sheriga’s vital cooperation and the concessions both sides are willing to make for lasting peace.

Government remains fully committed to ensuring safety and fostering dialogue. I urge all stakeholders to speed up this essential mediation process. Peace in Bawku is not just a local issue; it is a matter of national importance.
