Naa Odoley Sowah confirms 2025 first-quarter allowances paid to chiefs

Rita Naa Odoley Sowah, the Deputy Minister for Local Government, Decentralization, and Rural Development in charge of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, has announced that traditional leaders across Ghana have received their first-quarter allowances for 2025.
Speaking at the official launch of the 2025 Ghana Chieftaincy Awards in Accra on Thursday, July 17, the Deputy Minister said the disbursement demonstrates the government’s commitment to traditional institutions and its respect for their contribution to national development.
“I would say that, as a ministry and through the leadership of the President, the government has ensured that the first-quarter allowances for traditional leaders have been duly disbursed,” she stated.
She added that the second-quarter payments would be made in due course and reaffirmed government’s ongoing support.
“The government, under the leadership of the President, remains committed to supporting traditional institutions,” she assured.
The Ghana Chieftaincy Awards, launched at the event, seeks to honour traditional rulers who exemplify excellence in leadership, cultural preservation, and community development.
