Tema needs reset, and it will happen – Mayor Ebi Bright reminisces on city’s golden days

Mayor of Tema, Ebi Bright, has taken Ghanaians down memory lane with an emotional and entertaining social media post reflecting on her fondest memories of growing up in the vibrant harbour city.
In a heartfelt tribute to the good old days, Ebi began with a question: “What be your sweetest Tema memory as you dey grow? My GenZ people, make you siddown well make we flow you some real history!”
According to the Mayor, “Fridays be the koko!” She described how Fridays in her youth were the ultimate gateway into the weekend, full of energy, bonding, and community.
“We go troop go Presco Park go catch correct colts ball action,” she said, listing football stars who thrilled them on the pitch.
“You go see ballers like Ishmael Addo, Christian Atadjan, Yakubu Abubakar, James Nanor, CK Ackunor, Sham Oquaye, Sebastian Banes, Kofi Polo, Frank Tsugani, Matthew Amoa, Hans Adu Sappey…” she recalled, adding that these players represented local giants like Soccer Angels, Presco Mini, Great Ambassadors, and Young Kotoko.
Ebi Bright didn’t stop at sports—she paid glowing tribute to the city’s music legends too.
“Tema get am pass. We get legends like Joel Ackah, Smart Nkansah, Jadu Blay Ambuley, Paapa Yanks, Uncle Willie P, AB Crentsil and dem squad… you no go fit mention OGs without Tema boys inside.”
Education also featured in her throwback, as she fondly remembered the long queues at the Tema Library.
“I still dey remember how we dey queue long-long for Tema Library to read or rent books, now dem collapse am turn am into stores. Chale, education and entertainment that time be hot cake!”
In closing, Mayor Ebi Bright hinted at a revival: “All these vibes be why I talk say Tema need reset, and e go happen, we go bring the life back by force! Chale, Friday night Club Felisa diɛ… No long talk. Meet me there!”
