Recruitment into GAF to start latest by September 2025—Minister

Defence Minister Dr. Omane Boamah has given a strong indication that recruitment into the Ghana Armed Forces will start latest by September 2025.

According to him, the John Dramani Mahama administration has decided to recruit 12,000 personnel into the Army in the next four years while they are in power.

However, unlike previously, when there were stories of government appointees and their assigns selling slots, the minister reiterated that recruitment and enlistment into the army will not be for sale but based on merit.

“Exciting times ahead as we recruit and enlist 12,000 new personnel (2025-2028) starting latest by September this year. Remember, joining the Ghana Armed Forces is based on merit, not money. Joining the Ghana Armed Forces will be based on merit, not money,” he said in a post shared via social media.

The minister further gave a strong indication that the government is working tirelessly to ensure that Ghanaian troops are given the best care and support they deserve, considering the work they do.

“We’re working hard to ensure our troops get the best care & support,” he said.
