NADMO and CRCC launch disaster management committee in Central Region

The Central Regional Secretariat of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), in collaboration with the Central Regional Coordinating Council (CRCC), has taken decisive steps to protect the region from disaster risks.

As part of this initiative, NADMO has inaugurated a Regional Disaster Management Committee aimed at safeguarding lives, livelihoods, and the environment in the Central Region and beyond.

The formation of the committee aligns with Ghana’s legal and institutional framework for disaster risk management, which mandates coordinated disaster governance at all levels.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, the Central Regional Director of NADMO, Mr. Emmanuel Kwesi Dawood Mensah, expressed concern over the frequent fire outbreaks being recorded across the region’s Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs).

He revealed that both domestic and commercial fire incidents have been on the rise, leading to significant displacement and damage to properties.

“As members of this committee, we must foster a spirit of partnership and lead by example. Our service must reflect transparency, coordination, innovation, and compassion,” Mr. Dawood Mensah emphasized.

“Let us be clear: no single agency can manage disasters alone. This committee must become a platform for trust, data-sharing, joint training, simulations, and action. We must embed disaster risk reduction into every sector—from our communities and workplaces to our schools,” he added.

Mr. Dawood Mensah also called on stakeholders and the media to support NADMO in addressing disaster challenges, especially in light of the current unpredictable climate conditions.

He appealed to the general public to focus more on disaster prevention in order to reduce the loss of lives and property.
