In politics, everyone is needed – Apraku Calls for inclusive leadership at NPP conference

Veteran New Patriotic Party (NPP) politician and former presidential hopeful, Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku, has called for greater inclusion and grassroots engagement within the party as it navigates a challenging political landscape ahead of the 2024 elections.

Speaking during the ongoing NPP National Delegates Conference at the University of Ghana Stadium on Saturday, July 19, 2025, Dr. Apraku emphasized the need for a leadership style that involves more people in key decision-making processes and in the implementation of party policies.

“We need to get a lot more people involved in some of the decisions that we make and also help them to be able to implement them because they understand them,” he said.

“People want to feel like they are needed and in politics everybody is needed. You should let them feel like they are inevitable—you know, without them things will not work.”

Reflecting on his longstanding presence across multiple NPP administrations, Dr. Apraku also addressed the uniqueness of the upcoming presidential campaign, describing it as unlike any other in the party’s history.

“It’s different in every aspect. You know, what we have been through—we’ve never thought of it,” he remarked, alluding to the political and economic challenges the party faces.

He called for a strategic reset, saying the party must return to its core values and reconnect meaningfully with Ghanaians. “So we go back to the basics.

“Try to reinvent the wheel. Try to find a better way to get closer to the people, to understand what Ghanaians want. In politics, you do what the people want, not what you want,” he added.
