Daddy Lumba dies at 59 after short illness

Ghanaian highlife legend Charles Kojo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, has died. His family confirmed the news in a press statement released on Saturday, July 26, 2025.
“With profound sorrow and deep grief, the Fosu family announces the passing of Ghana’s beloved musical icon, Charles Kojo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, who passed away earlier today, Saturday, July 26, 2025, after a short illness,” the statement read.
Daddy Lumba was one of the most influential figures in Ghanaian music history. He produced dozens of hit songs over several decades and built a loyal fanbase both in Ghana and abroad.
The statement continued:
“Daddy Lumba was more than a musician; he was a cultural icon whose music touched countless lives. His soulful voice provided the soundtrack to our love stories, and his lyrics captured the reality of our struggles and dreams.”
The family has requested privacy during this period of mourning and noted that funeral details will be announced soon.
“During this time of immense loss, we respectfully request privacy for the family and loved ones as they navigate this profound grief.”
The message was signed by Fati Ali Yallah, Esq., counsel for the Fosu family.
A post made on Daddy Lumba’s official Facebook page shortly after the announcement simply read:“Rest well, legend!”
