Bawku SHS closed down after student was killed on campus

Reports indicate that Bawku Senior High has been closed down temporarily by the Municipal Education Directorate.
This follows the shooting of a final-year student, Hakim Kundima, on the school’s campus on Saturday July 26, 2025.
The tragic incident comes on the heels of a similar attack at Nalerigu Senior High School, where two students were shot and killed by unidentified gunmen on the same evening, further heightening concerns about security in senior high schools within the region.
Background
Bawku-based Guman Radio reported the death of a third-year General Arts student of the Bawku Senior High School.
According to the report, the student whose name is given as Hakim Kundima was dragged out of his dormitory and shot in the full glare of other students.
This was after some persons believed to be kusasis scaled the school’s walls and invaded the campus of Bawku Senior High School.
The body has since been deposited at the Presbyterian Hospital morgue in Bawku.
The Bawku conflict has escalated even beyond the borders of Bawku to the Ashanti Region. Last week, the Kusasi Chief in the Ashanti Region and his brother suffered painful deaths at the hands of unknown assailants.
The situation has become very dire, as efforts to contain it seem to be failing, considering the recent targeted killings in Bolgatanga and Kumasi.
