Indiscriminate issuance of Ghana card to foreigners worrying

Chief Executive of the Ghana Association of Banks, John Awuah has express his cocerns over the issueance of Ghana card to non-Ghanaians.
According to him, the rate at which these cards are being issued to foreigners is becoming worrying and must be looked at.
John Awuah who made this known in a post shared via Linkedin could not fathom why buses of foreigners who can’t speak any local language or even English will visit bank premises with a Ghana card for Ghanaians in their possession.
He believes these cards are being issued by some few morally incorrect individuals at the National Identification Authority and wants them checked as they are giving the organization a bad name.
His post read “NIA, please watch your internal processes, it is possible some cartel is operating from within your organisation.
How come so many non-Ghanaians are showing up at banks with Ghana Card? Some are coming to our banks in buses; they don’t speak any Ghanaian language, most can’t even mention their hometowns yet they have Ghana Card. They are not being issued Ghana Card for non Ghanaians but the one that is reserved for Ghanaians which is very inappropriate
Ghana Card is supposed to be the single source of truth about our identity as Ghanaians. Please do not let the few greedy NIA staff put the whole system at risk. If we lose Ghana Card to greed, what becomes of our identity as Ghanaians?
I’m not sure how these non-Ghanaians secure Ghana Card when just basic questions would have exposed their nationalities. At a time when some Ghanaians are struggling to get their cards, non-Ghanaians are getting it on a silver platter and in groups.
These cards issued are being used hy fraud syndicates to defraud Ghanaians. There are far reaching implications for personal greed of individuals. Do the right thing!
SIT UP, NIA. This is become a National Disaster!
