No raid on NPP Chairman’s home – Police clarify

The Ghana Police Service has dismissed reports claiming its officers raided the home of the Bono East Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), leading to the death of one person.

In a statement shared on their official Facebook page, the police said the claim is “false” and clarified that the operation was part of a robbery response on August 1, 2025, around 1:20 am, based on credible intelligence.

According to the police, officers intercepted a gang of robbers in Techiman, during which one suspect, later identified as Seidu Bukari, sustained gunshot wounds and later died at the hospital.

Bukari was a known member of a robbery syndicate reportedly responsible for several attacks in the area, particularly stealing and trafficking motorbikes to Kumasi.

It was after the operation that officers discovered the property involved belonged to Mr. Ibrahim Baba Bukari, the NPP’s Bono East Regional Chairman.

A motorbike and robbery tools were retrieved from the scene, while efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing gang members.

The Inspector-General of Police has since dispatched a team from CID Headquarters, the Police Professional Standards Bureau, and the Police Intelligence Directorate to ensure a thorough investigation.
